The Culture in Classrooms Project

Why This Project Matters

Teachers are more than just instructors—they are mentors, community builders, and cultural ambassadors. Yet, their perspectives are often underrepresented. This project aims to:

  • Preserve Teacher Stories – Document firsthand accounts of what it means to teach in today’s world.

  • Highlight Culture in Classrooms – Show how cultural backgrounds and values influence teaching styles and student engagement.

  • Bridge Students & Educators – Create a platform where young people can better understand the people guiding their education.

Inspiration: The Bezos Community Change Project

This initiative grew out of my experience as a Bezos Scholar, where I designed and led a Community Change Project centered on STEM inclusion and learning equity through math. Through that work, I realized how essential teachers are in shaping not just classrooms, but communities.

Stories That Shape Us

Like cultural anthropologists who preserve oral histories, I am conducting teacher interviews to capture how culture, identity, and community shape educational experiences. These narratives form the heart of the project, highlighting the human side of teaching and learning.

Insights for Change

As I continue building this project, I’m translating these stories into insights that can help strengthen equity in education. By paying attention to the cultural layers of teaching and learning, the goal is to highlight new ways to support all students.

Equity in Action

This project builds on the foundation of my Bezos Community Change Project, where I first explored how inclusive practices could transform education. Now, I am applying an anthropological lens by observing, analyzing, and documenting how equity and inclusion take shape in real classrooms.
